The
state of Kerala lies
on the Southern most part of the India having a population of 30 million
and a geographical area of 38,000
Sq kms. Kerala could achieve the highest literacy rate among all Indian
states and her health care system is comparable to any advanced country in
the world. Thanks mainly to the contribution made by Private sector in the
respective fields. The enterprising Keralites migrated to different parts
of the globe and Kerala economy today thrives mainly on foreign
remittances. But ever since the formation of the state in 1956 political
power alternated in between the Socialist United Democratic Front (UDF)
and the Marxist Left Democratic Front (LDF) and both of them were
competing among themselves to be more "progressive" by persuing statist policies. With
the result about 4 million young men and women remain either unemployed or
unemployable which creates quite an explosive situation. Productive
sectors of the economy remain stagnent. There is a buergoining bureacracy
and corruption has become all pervasive. There are about 200 loss making public sector undertakings which eat away, the scarce
resources of the state. For the helpless citizens democracy comes to an
end the moment he or she casts his or her vote at the end of every five
year period. It
was in this background that some of us who felt very badly about the
situation and who believe in classical liberal philosophy came out with
the idea of forming a "Liberal Group" in the state of Kerala.
Although we are a non-party group at the moment, we are quite sure that
we will become a force to reckon with in the politics of Kerala in the
very near future. Among other things, we believe in, 1.
Restoration of values or "Dharma" in society. 2.
A limited Govt. and decentralisation of powers at all levels with an
effective participatroy local
govt. 3.
A free market economy regulated in public interest and considerations of
equity and fair play. 4.
Bringing up a new class of leaders from among students, youth, women,
agriculturists, small entrepreneurs, consumers,
unemployed young men and women who were left out during the last 50 years of socialist
dispensation. 5.
Promoting poverty alleviation and self employment by voluntary action. 6.
Promoting worldwide the possibilites of IT, Tourism, Ayurvedha (an
alternative source of medicine) for which Kerala is best suited.
